LESLIE ELLEN "LES" AMES MURPHY ~ Class of 1965
December 10, 1946 - January 17, 2024

Les Ames

Leslie E. Murphy passed away peacefully in the evening hours of Wednesday, January 17, 2024. She was 77 years old. {From her brother, Fred ('60), Leslie suffered for many years from a number of ailments, many of which we suspected were related to her exposure, in 1949, during the Green Run.}

She attended schools in Richland with the Class of 1965 prior to moving in 1955 after second grade.

Leslie was born December 10, 1946, in Schenectady, New York to the late Frederick Harve Ames Jr and Suzanne Stern Ames. She was a retired chemist working for the Research and Development department for Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co.

She loved to listen to country and the music of the 1970s. Most of her family and friends knew her as a hippie with a free spirit and held a love for nature and animals. Her love for animals fueled her passion for rescuing and finding homes for them.

Leslie received awards from the Missouri State Fair for her talents with needlepoint.

She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Leslie is survived by her husband of 43 years, James Murphy Sgt. USMC//Capt. USAF Ret. of Warner Robins; children: Brad (Gretchen) Gorski of Atlanta, Michelle (CMSgt. Larry Laurine-USAF, Ret.) Laurine of Warner Robins, Patrick T. Murphy of Warner Robins; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Fred ('60) (Natalie) Ames of North Carolina; niece, Brennan Phares; nephew, Jonathan Ames; and 1 great nephew, Jude.

A visitation was held Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory. The family requested friends wear purple, Leslie's favorite color. The remainder of the services were private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paws in Middle Georgia, 408 N. Houston Rd. Warner Robins, Georgia 31093, or online at Paws in Middle Georgia.

Please sign the online guest registry and leave a personal condolence for the family.

Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory has the honor of being entrusted with the arrangements for Leslie E. Murphy.
